Chanelle and Jeff Exchange Vows in Scottburgh | A Perfect Ending
Jeff and Chanelle exchange vows in Scottburgh. (this is a long post).
A stunning wedding. Perfect weather. Before I tell you about this amazing wedding, I have to share their story with the world. I am going to start on the 13 June 2015…
Jeff and Chanelle were driving home in the afternoon, after work and were involved in a serious head on motor vehicle accident on the Illovo Bridge. I do not want to go into much detail but Jeff escape with a few minor injuries, but Chanelle was rushed to Albert Luthuli Hospital with serious injuries. At the time of the accident, this was one of the comments by Chanelle’s dad on Facebook. He is writing to Jeff……
“I know how much you love Chanelle and how much you wish you could take her place but I believe that in this case, God worked in mysterious ways – if he could foresee the accident and knew that no matter who was driving any vehicle over that bridge at that time, they would have found themselves in the same fate that Chanelle found herself in but having said that, he probably also knew that if it were going to be the two of you, you as the passenger would be the best equipped to see that the both of you came out of the accident alive and in that regard, he was 100% accurate. You were in the car yet you were physically spared to carry out all you did that ultimately played a huge part in the fact that Chanelle is still with us today – you ensured her safety at all times, ensured she didn’t lapse into unconsciousness and stayed by her side every step of the way and continue to do so. As Chanelle’s Dad, I am immensely proud of the way in which you have conducted yourself throughout this entire traumatic experience and I couldn’t have wished for a better person to be at her side. I love her so much and as you know, the thought of me possibly losing her was not something I wanted to entertain and you played a huge role in ensuring it wasn’t so – thank you so much.” – Written by Bradley King on 2017-06-13.
Fast forward 3 years and the same date that the accident occurred, I had the ultimate privilege to photograph their pre-wedding session. What a celebration of life and miracles.
Here is an awesome video of their session beautiful done by Tanya.
Back to the wedding.
I arrived with Jeff and the boys at the beach who were getting ready for a quick surf session before the wedding. The east had been blowing and there was quite a big ground swell. I said to Jeff “I have been surfing this week bud, did you surf?” Jeff’s reply was “No. I last surfed 3 years ago!”. Oh my I thought to myself, this is going to be fun to watch.
Well I was right, the current was very strong and Jeff attempted to get through the crunching waves but fatigue set in and it was just a matter of time until he wast caught in the current. Jeff drifted down to the left of where he had paddled out,,,,where there was no beach, only rocks. On my goodness, Tanya was running down the beach in a bit of a panic, but held her composure. I started getting pictures in my mind of Jeff arriving at his wedding full of cuts or even worse…. what if he has to go to hospital?
Having surfed my entire life, I know that one has to have to respect the sea. I also know that if you know the sea and you get into trouble, just stay calm, don’t panic. And that’s exactly what Jeff did. He turned his board towards the rock and the next minute, a wave washed him up onto the rocks and he stood up with a big smile on his face. Jeff, you had us in a bit of a panic there. Well done, mate. God had His hand over you!
I finished off with Jeff and went off to Chanelle. Now a little story about her dress. Chanelle while strolling through the streets of Vietnam, a dress caught her eye. It was beautiful. She just had to try it on. She did and it fitted perfectly. And today she would be wearing this stunning dress on her special day.
This was not the typical wedding, in a church with a lavish venue. It was Jeff and Chanelle’s wedding. A few close friends and family gathered to celebrate no only the joining of two people, but the celebration of life, both past and present. The wedding was being held in a nature reserve in Scottburgh. It was beautifully set out and decorated. A perfect setting.
It was very special, Chanelle’s uncle conducted the ceremony with so much love. Those that were no longer with us were remembered by means of photos of them hanging in the trees. (I am an advocate that our digital photos should not be left on a hard drive somewhere. They should be printed be looked at often).
Well, this is one of the most emotional weddings I have been to in a very long time, in fact, it was the most emotional. I kind of know the family (I have photographed Jeff’s sister, Juley) and I had met Tanya (Jeff’s mom at the pre-wedding shoot). Juley could not witness the day as she could not get off work and she was the one that had booked me for the wedding.
A stunning video of the wedding done by Tanya.
Jeff and Chanelle, Tanya and Charley, to the rest of the family and friends, you were awesome. I loved spending the day with all of you creating memories. Thank you that you trusted me to create amazing memories for you.
