Newborn Photography – South Coast
Newborn photography on the South Coast of Kwazulu Natal.
I have photographed a lot of genres over the years. I just love photography and its amazing diversity in creating memories. I must say that one of the most challenging genres is newborn photography. I definitely have the technical know how, but I am used to dealing with humans that follow instructions. Newborns don’t do that too well 😁.
Over the past few months, I have accepted the challenge. Why, well, I am a family portrait photographer and newborns are just tiny little beings and are part of the family.
I love the cuteness of the genre. My baby boy (who is now 15) grew up way too fast for my liking. Although I do have photos of him when he was a baby, I wished that I had done the right thing and hired a photographer to capture the tiny being just after birth. What a blessing, from those perfect, tiny finger nails to the beautiful soft feet. As a parent, we forget how tiny they actually were when they were born.
Last year I had the privilege of photographing Diane, John, their son and the new addition to the family. They did not want a studio shoot and wanted something on their farm in Margate. More of a lifestyle type of photo shoot. It was a stunning afternoon and they family felt comfortable in their environment. How cute is this little one?
Tyrone and Dawn did a maternity shoot with me in March this year at a remote beach in Port Shepstone. The weather prediction was overcast but my goodness, it was overcast but then the sun popped out and it was hot and very humid.
There baby was born a few weeks later, a bit prematurely I am told. So when little AlaÏa came to the studio in Port Shepstone, she was actually not a newborn, she was about 6 weeks old. She was amazing. At the beginning of the shoot, she was fast asleep and did not wake up until we were way into the shoot. Dawn dressed AlaÏa beautifully for the shoot with multiple outfits.
Terese and Lourie had there maternity shoot done in May at Mpenjati Nature Reserve on the South Coast. I love this stretch of the coast. The vast open area is amazing to work in. We were blessed with an amazing sunset (the start of winter in KZN).
In July, Terese gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Louise. Louise was just 2 weeks old. So petite and cute. Posing these little ones is so difficult. Actually two weeks is a little too old if you want posed baby photos. The ideal time is in the first week after birth. But I think we did well.
I just love how this turned out. I can see this printed on blocks in the babies room.
For me, I don’t remember by son being this tiny. I look forward to the next newborn shoot so that I can capture amazing moments in a blessings life.
