Norita and Charl | Post Wedding
Norita and Charl exchanged vows on 17 June this year. This is Norita’s amazing love story:
“It all started with Facebook. I had reached a stage in my life where I had decided I no longer wanted a relationship with a man. I wanted to focus on my relationship with God, my studies and my career. One morning, I grabbed my phone and tapped on the Facebook App. I clicked on my notifications (there were quite a few). I noticed that someone had liked a post I had made about 3 months prior. It was a post I made about waiting for a man who wishes to pursue Christ more than anything else. Now who was this person……… I clicked on the the post and noted it was a man. My first thought was….I have a stalker and why was he scrolling through my old Facebook posts. I went to see if we were friends on Facebook. He wasn’t, but a saw that he had a few of my friends in his friends list. Yes, I checked him out. I looked at his profile picture and something said to me, this is him. I thought this is insane, I don’t know this person, and the fact that I was done with men, but my heart was telling me, this is him. I decided to scroll through his page and feeling anxiousness, decided to add him as a friend. I left it at that.
I asked God for guidance and asked God that if this random man is the one, the God must create the opportunity for us to communicate. A few days passed and I had heard nothing.
One morning, I opened up Facebook and there is was. This man had accepted my friend request and he had sent me a message. Oh my word, I plucked up the courage and wrote back. We then started communicating.
Unbeknown to me, Charl (the man), was in the same situation. He had also been communicating with God about his relationship and God had spoken to Him about me.
Charl fetched me from work one Friday afternoon and the minute I saw him I knew I was looking at my husband. As cheesy as it sounds I just knew with every fiber inside of me that I was finally in the presence of the man I was going to spend the rest of my life with and this brought so much peace to my spirit but so much nervousness to my brain as I began to stress about all the little things he might not like about me. After that first visit we both knew but none of us said it to each other.
We decided the next month to start dating this solidified the fact that we both knew that this was forever because we had both made promises to ourselves to never entertain anything that wasn’t of God.
On the 10th of June 2016 I turned 25. Charl had planned to take my mother and I to Beaver Creek for a birthday brunch. While we were there my mom kept bringing up the marriage topic because she said she knew we were going to get married. I wasn’t stressed as I knew we were going to get married, but was not sure when.
Charl on the other hand, was stressing all morning because he knew that this was the day he was going to propose to me.
That night, he blindfolded me and piggybacked me to the outside room and walked me inside. He removed the blindfold and before me I saw the most beautiful room I had ever seen. He had decorated the room with draping (in colours I wanted for our wedding day ) and fairy lights. On the floor were tea light candles that spelt out I love you. All our selfies that were on Charl’s phone were printed and pinned up all around the room in date sequence to tell our story. He popped the question and I obviously said YES and started crying with joy.
I could not maintain my excitement and started planning our wedding the next day.
We were married this year and it was honestly the most beautiful, most precious day of our lives thus far. We are so grateful to God for bringing us together and for using Facebook as a medium to find each other. If it wasn’t for Him, our love, marriage and life together as best friends wouldn’t exist”. Thanks Norita for allowing me to share your amazing story.
I had photographed Norita before and asked her if she would like to do a post wedding shoot. The minute she read my message, she responded, “of course…..”.
